  • Our Shrimp and Grits Cook-off starts at 12:30 PM and goes until 4:30 PM - or until gone!

  • Chefs and/or teams must check-in by 10:00 AM on Saturday, March 9th with the Block Party Event Coordinator

  • Teams may not consist of more than 3 members

  • We will hold a conference call for all Chef’s the week prior to the Cook-off (details to follow)

    • All teams are welcome to peel shrimp prior to the start of the cook-off

    • All teams must provide their own shrimp and grits

  • All teams must have a food thermometer(s) at their cook-off stations.

  • Gloves must be worn at ALL times.


  • All equipment must be unloaded from your vehicle by 10:30 AM. Paris Avenue will be closed to Chef/vendor traffic at this point so we can open our event to the public at 12:00 PM

  • Bridges Block Party will give each team:

    • (1) 10 x 10 foot tent

    • (2) 8 x 10 foot table

    • (1) white table cloth

    • (2) chafing dishes and (4) sterno can

    • disposable spoons and sample dishes for the  shrimp & grits

All Chefs/teams must provide their own: shrimp and grits; food thermometers; cooking equipment; cooking supplies; spices; serving spoons; prep equipment; storage containers; and/or anything needed to successfully complete our shrimp and grits cook-off.  

Electrical outlets are available for your equipment, however, each team is responsible for extension cords and /or heat source to prepare dish.


The People’s Choice judging will be done by guests who purchase a ballot for the Shrimp and Grits Cook-off.  These guests will sample each cook-off recipe and then select their favorite dish by placing a ballot in a sealed container.  The winner will be determined by who receives the most votes with People’s Choice ballots for their shrimp and grits dish.  Award will be announced Main stage at 4:30 PM.

  • 1st Place Winner of People’s Choice Award will receive a $1,000.00 cash, as well as, a feature article in a local publication

  • 2nd Place - $500.00 cash

  • 3rd Place  - $250.00 cash


Teams are encouraged to decorate their cooking area.

Each team will be assigned a number that guests will use to vote for the People’s Choice award

Running water will be a few feet from the cook-off area to wash hands, dishes, etc. Teams will not be allowed to run hoses to the cook-off area.

Please check for their Shrimp & Grits ballot and bracelet. We will have Volunteers to assist.

  • It is imperative that you prepare enough shrimp and grits for 500+ servings.

    • What does this mean?

    • You may want to cut shrimp into smaller pieces vs serving whole shrimp

    • Monitor your sample size- make them consistently the sample amount per sample cup.
